Names
People have called me many variations of my name (or other things) over the years.
My Grandpa pronounces my name ‘Angel-uh.’ Just like ‘angel’ with an ‘uh’ on the end. And probably 65% of the time, Grandma called me “Anita,” which is my mom’s name. I gave her grief, but it didn’t do any good. Too many ‘A’ names for her to have ever gotten it straight.
In high school, my closest friends called me “Ang” or “Burris,” my maiden name. I’m not sure I remember anyone calling me “Angela” except for maybe teachers.
And then, I met Matt Slaughter and things got very interesting.
The hard and fast rule is, if Matt ever calls me, “Angela,” he is either frustrated with or downright mad at me. Below is a list of names he uses for me DAILY and INTERCHANGEABLY.
Ang–This is THE standard. However, there are many variations. They are as follows.
- Angelina
- Angelina Joile
- Anga Pam–I have no explanation for this one.
- Angela Pamjela–Wow. No idea.
- Angela–Again, if he uses my actual name, it’s bad. Really bad.
Dink–This one came about right after we started dating. We were fishing with friends (one of whom is now in Heaven), and I caught a tiny little fish. Matt said, “That one’s a dink just like you.” It stuck.
Oprah–I only wish I knew. Sadly, I have no clue.
Ballerina–Maybe I should have put this with the ‘Ang’ variation list. It stems from ‘Angelina Ballerina.’
Fiona or Fi–This is the most recent addition. We have become huge Burn Notice fans, and ‘Fiona’ is one of the show’s stars. Pause. And that’s all I’ll say about that.
Does your significant other have special/crazy names for you? Do share.
No names but can I just say how obsessed we are with Burn Notice!?!? Haven’t missed a season yet. Fi, Sam, and that hottie little Michael… Well im just waiting for them to accept my dinner invitation.
Not ashamed to admit it. I am OBSESSED. By far, my fav show ever!
Okay real name is Lindsey. The husband when he is mad calls me Lindsey…any other time it is Lins or babe. My family will either call me Lins, Linny, or Linzer. Linzer stems from my uncle and he has called me that well since I have been born!

That cracks me up that Matt has so many names for you! What a hoot! My hubby usually just calls me “Babe” or “Spud”-which who knows where that came from! And like you, if the hubby calls me “Shelly” then either I’m in trouble or something is wrong!
Somehow, somewhere, I came up with the nickname of “Schmoopee.” I have NO idea where I heard it or came up with it-but it’s stuck. We work together and even the girls at work will refer to Steve as “Schmoop” or “Schmoopee.”
Oh the names!
I met your hubby last week when I went and talked to him about my daughter enrolling in Shiloh. Very nice guy, I must say, though from what I’ve read on the blog-I wasn’t suprised.
Have a great weekend!
Yeah… I think I’ll keep him! : ) And I love SCHMOOPEE!
I can’t remember the last time John called me Christina. It’s usually Darling. (barf I know, but I’m used to it)
I think Darling is adorable!
I just found your blog, and I am loving it! I am so excited to be a new follower! My fiance calls me Tulip…or Tulip Head…or Cabbage. I know those are probably the most romantic names you’ve ever heard, but he’s not the most lovey-dovey type, so I’ll take what I can get!
I hope you’ll stop by my blog, Cupcakes and Candy Canes, sometime!

These are hilarious!!
Josh calls me Jenny Leigh most of the time. Leigh is my middle name. The best part of this little pet name is that I hate being called Jenny and he knows this, so that’s how Jenny Leigh stuck around!
I’m a little late to the party, but I, too, have a laundry list of names my southern beau calls me and NONE of them include Kate.
1. Hunnah – Actually we call each other this…my granny called me this when I was little and once I knew the beau was a keeper for life, I allowed him to use this name.
2. Bird, Birdie-loo, Bird-pie – No idea why or how these came about.
3. Bubble (Bubble Cakes, Bubble-ganoush) – Again…no clue
4. Bunny – I’m seeing an animal theme here.
5. Squishy – This one’s from Finding Nemo
But if you ever meet him, don’t say I told y’all these lovey dovey names because his tough guy exterior might not be able to stand it
